Whether you receive waay too many annoying text messages from a spamming agency, or your ex feels the need to send 20 texts to you in the middle of the night, T-Mobile has come to the rescue by making it a breeze to block unwanted text messages.
If you're a T-Mobile customer, you can either block spam text messages or block text messages from a specific number thanks to T-Mobile's helpful new filtering service. Now you can say adiós to that crazy ex who just can't take a hint!

Be sure to check if "blocking" the text messages means you also won't be charged for them! When I added my dad's phone to my Sprint plan a few years back, he started getting tons of spammy text messages right away, before he'd even given the phone # to anyone. I called Sprint right away and just asked them to block all text messages, since he wasn't going to be texting anyway.
They did, but it took me four months to convince them to stop charging us for the spam text messages we weren't even receiving.
1Great idea. I hate those random text messages from people who don't know you at all. Now if I could block most callers too...
2VirginMobile has always offered this service. It has come in handy in the past, and you can go in and add/remove from the list all you want.
And btw, this looks like an ad for T-Mobile, I'm sure many more companies offer this service...
3OMG! When is Verizon going to get this? I'm having that issue right now where someone will not stop texting me even though I have asked them to stop harassing me! Verizon says the only way I can handle it is to change my phone number which is ridiculous to do!
4StefaPie- Definitely not an ad! I am a T-Mobile customer so I was happy to learn this and wanted to share. Also loved the pink logo from the website so thought it would work perfectly for the story!
5Ah, makes perfect sense. Sorry for being suspicious.
6Another reason I'm psyched to have T Mobile.
7i had sprint do this for me for years
8I have T-mobile in the UK and while I never liked their service in the States, I swear they've got the best deals (not to mention the friendliest customer service phone representatives who all happen to have Scottish accents LOL) over here - think I'll stick with them when I'm back in the US!
9Yeah, I've been getting spam text messages too and I have Verizon. It's so unfair that I have to pay for them! Grrr, cellphone companies.
10now here's an idea i can't live without. my brother is always sending these ridiculous text messages. who told these yahoos it was okay to take their fwd spam from email to text messages anyway?
11I would go nuts if I ever got spam texts. So its great to know that this is a new feature in case it ever happens!
12I wish that Cingular had this. I have an ex who just won't quit!
13Geek Sugar,
14I found out that you can NOT block a text messages from a specific number in this filter. This filter is only for your cell phone's email address. The other option available is to block ALL text messages but that not what I want! I want to block a specific number from texting me .... Plz help!
T-mobile has a Family Allowance Plan for $4.99 a month that will allow you to block text and/or calls from specific numbers.
15As of 11/1/09 Tmobile does NOT allow you to block an individual number from texting you, its either all texts are blocked or none. this sucks because sometimes there is just 1 person who over texts you or if you give your number to a promotor you know you're gonna get tons of useless texts.
16Actually, T-mobile DOES allow you to block a particular number, however; it blocks you from sending them...not receiving them (which defeats the purpose). I just found this out when, after blocking a specific number two months ago through my Family Allowances, I received a text from the individual. Unfortunately I was unable to text them back until I changed removed the block.
