So remember how last year I told you about the top ten most used and abused passwords? Well, apparently some of you weren't paying attention, cause the list is just as lame (and essentially the same) this year! When I read USA Today's report, I had to chuckle. "Abc123," really? "Password," are you kidding — have you not learned a thing?

All joking aside, someone could do some major damage to your personal records if they just so happen to figure out that your password is "qwerty" (like it's hard) and you use it for everything from online banking, to your Myspace log in, email, and online credit card accounts. You don't have to tell me what it is, but admit it: you still have a lame password. Any savvy geek should have a pretty complicated password for Joe Schmo to figure out so he doesn't go on a buying rampage and take that trip to Fiji you've always dreamed of. . . on your dollar!

All mine are stupid and lame!
1BUT
I have a differnet password for everything (sometimes it's so hard to remember!). But yea, they are all reatarded!
I'm pretty sure I have the most AWESOME password ever!!!
2No way! Yes, a lot of my passwords are the same, but anything that needs security gets the standard 7 letters and 3 digits.
3someone keeps hacking my myspace account.
4I have the same 2 basic passwords for everything, BUT they are long, mixed-case alpahnumeric passwords that are pretty hard to crack.
For those of you who pick lame passwords because you can't remember something good, use something like KeePass to keep up with your myriad passwords. It'll even generate secure passwords for you.
5It depends on what for. I use a lame one still, but it's my lame one that no one would get.
6Nope.
Mr. Goose is a computer security whiz. He has created some fairly challenging passwords (imo). I use them.
7My passwords are not complex at all, but are not easy to guess, and I use basically the same 3 or 4 with slight changes for all of my online accounts.
I'm guilty of adding a 1 to the end of my standard password whenever I'm required to have both letters are numbers.
8I have a secure password for important things, but for all the other online accounts, I use a lame password, like, it could almost be on that list. I feel like I should change it now, but I remember it!
9At my old job I did some tech support and I would sometimes show up at a person's desk when they weren't there. Nine times out of ten if they had children I could guess their password. It was ridiculous.
I use three different passwords, all with a combo of numbers and letters and one with a special character.
10I have a password that's a little personal, so I doubt anyone would guess it ... the only thing is that it's the same password that I use for everything or a variation ... it's too hard to remember 4584449 different passwords.
11I use the same password for everything (maybe with a tiny variation) bc i tried diff passwords and just couldn't remember them! I think it's pretty hard to guess...it's even in a foreign language!
12Ok, I totally have a lame password, but I hate those sites that make you come up with all those requirements (13 characters, one uppercase, one lowercase, part alpha, part numeric)...I mean how the heck am I suppose to keep remembering all these intricate passwords?
13I like using random password generators , it's a bit tough to memorize (has capital, small and numbers in it) but it keeps my password from being guessable.
14LOL mine is so very lame; I've had the same one since sophomore year of high school (ten years!). But I do have a subsequent one for those sites that make you use certain combinations, and I guess that one is better, though it's still marginally lame itself, hehe. Fortunately, I've not been hacked so far! *Knocks on wood*
15I have about 12 different passwords of various lengths in use, regularly changed every six to twelve months. I only remember them all because they're based on algorithms derived from a mathematical theory and a certain symphony.
I'm pretty much a nerd down to the smallest detail, heh.
16I have certain super difficult passwords I use for online banking and things like that.
Otherwise I have about 5 passwords that I rotate between. I usually pick a word and switch out certain letters for numbers "E" becomes "3" and things like that.
17yeah, i don't get people who are dumb about their passwords. i change mine every few weeks and make them so hard even i forget them from time to time. can't be too careful.
18I use the same password for pretty much everyting except work and banking I'm surprised that I can remember them from time to time lol.
19My only "lame" password is the one at my work computer, which I figure people may need to get into when I'm away, and if they ask me for it I don't want to give them something personal or that I use as a password for anything else.
20My simple passwords are words in (romanized) Japanese, and they're used only for sites that don't contain any financial information. (I'm not fluent, but I know enough words to use for passwords.) My complex passwords are phrases, sayings, or fortune cookies with numbers added.
For example:
Don't touch my plum tree my friend said.
(from a poem by Taigi)
Becomes:
Dtmptmfs.74161
(74161 being l337-ish for taigi)
(Obviously, that's not one I use, else I wouldn't be putting it here.)
I'm surprised that this one, or a variant of it, doesn't show up.
1234!@#$
It's a really crappy password, but it's easy to type and meets most security parameters.
21I have about 4 passwords I use for everything, with slight variations depending on what the website requires (numbers, capital letters, etc.).
If someone were to figure out my passwords, I'd be very shocked. They're based on personal things that I don't really discuss with anyone
I don't even think the hints they ask you to provide answers to would help a hacker figure out my passwords.
The password on my work computer MUST be changed every 6 months or something like that. Which makes it difficult.
22Another trick you can do to harden (harden is a technical term, not bad grammer) up your passwords is to insert special characters in place of letters... so take macgirl and it would look like this:
m@cg1rl or m@cg1r1
1= L or i
@=a
$=s
0=o
and so on.
23In some of my passwords, I use the technique that macgirl has suggested. I also have a password manager (1Password) which I can use on Safari on my macbook and iphone.
24My passwords are lame BUT quite difficult to find out!
25and I use different ones for different websites!
I wouldn't call my password lame. It's just a regular word with some extra letters added in it. I use the same word for all my accounts, just with variations (a number here and there).
26Six asterisks usually do it for me.
27Nope! I have a complicated password with numbers and letters and it's not something silly like abc123
28Random numbers, letters, characters for me.
A pet peeve is when an sa password is set to something like abc123. I mean, really, why would you risk your database security based on your limited password creativity. *smirk*
29I have two fairly difficult passwords using letters, numbers, and symbols and one lame one with just letters/numbers.
The lame one I use for my network login at work. They make me change every 3 months and to be honest...my coworkers are mostly the "password1" type so my password looks like pure cryptographical genius compared to theirs.
The easier of the two non-lame ones is for the fluffy sites I log into. The harder one is for the financial stuff.
(sigh) I should make them harder. But I should really look into KeePass and step up my game. Thanks for the suggestion, EvilDorkGirl!
30Mines a combo upper/lower and numbers. I use the same one for most sites with site variations. I've started to use generated passwords for sites (I use Roboform when not on the Mac) but generally I like to have one password with just a slight variation in some form that I would remember.
31My passwords are all different, but I have a system to remember them without the aid of a software or such.
32My passwords are all different, but I have a system to remember them without the aid of a software or such.
33I've been using the same lame password for years, but only for sites that don't matter. When it comes to real websites, or websites with personal information, I use very good ones.
34I have a couple of lame ones still wondering around out there but for more important sites or sites that I feel have any pertinent info attached to them somehow, I use difficult passwords.
35In fact, a site I recently signed up for (which of course I can't recall now) had a generator type thing that rated the difficulty of your new password which I thought was a bit nifty
I'm way too paranoid to use something to so easily figured out. But then again, nothings perfect, there's alway some sort of key logger or cracker out there.
