A few weeks ago a bunch of us Sugar folk flew down to Los Angeles for a very geek-chic party on Virgin America.
It was the first time some of us had flown the relatively new airline (it launched in August 2007) and we took full advantage of the plane's Red inflight system by instant messaging one another and playing around with the onboard games. While we had fun chatting, we concluded the system still needs a bit of work (adding passengers to the chat wasn't exactly intuitive) and after about a half hour we went back to talking to one another.
I didn't realize how exciting the system, which includes 25 on-demand movies, live TV, video games, Google maps, 3,000 MP3s and seat-to-seat chat via a nine-inch video touchscreen, really is until I took another airline this weekend and went back to the old-school way of flying. You know, staring at the back of the chair in front of me.
Have you tested the Red system and if so, what do you think of it?

I flew Jet Airways, an Indian airline, and it actually had everything described in the article. Who would of thought? Regardless, I had a blast on the flight!
1i haven't gotten a chance to fly on one of these high-tech flights. i've just been sticking to the typical southwest airlines
2I loved the music, movies, and tv shows available. I flew back and forth with my boyfriend from Los Angeles to London non-stop and I couldn't sleep at all so they kept me entertained after I finished an entire novel. I thought the IM chat thing was kinda silly- I would rather talk to the person I was flying with, but maybe for people who are alone it would be fun.
3Oh also the map thing is awesome. You can see where you are in the world in a variety of ways, how long to the minute the flight will take, weather, etc.
4Im flying SF to DC in about a month- Im DYING to play with all the stuff- and the mood lighting seems so awesome!
5I absolutely loved this. It was so much fun!
6I'm going to study abroad next year and after this article I'm totally flying with Virgin... how cool for a flight!
7I always believe in making full use of what the airline has to offer. Since you've already paid a fortune to fly, why not get your value for money?
8I'm flying from SF to NY in a month too! My brother just flew from NY to SF and played with the gadgets the whole time. He wants to be sure I get a chance too! I can't wait!!
9My friend was flying from NY to LA on Virgin on her 29th birthday a couple months ago. A single girl dreading her dirty thirties, she ordered a glass of wine and was excited when she got texted from a cute guy in another row. They got to 'talking' for about 15 minutes until he asked "Wait. Are you in the aisle or the window?" After she replied "Window," he stopped writing. There was a 19 year old gorgeous blonde in the aisle. Virgin gave her the worst birthday of her life (but a totally funny story).
10i ahven't been on VA recently - but whe i used to fly overseas on the airline, i would LOVE it. they have the blockbuster of movies to watch and what's better than that right? i hope that one of these days soon enough i'll be able to take a flight on the airline to really try it out and see what the new system is all about.
11I'm flying from DC to LA next week and can't wait to play with all the extras. It sure beats the flight on United I took last week.
12They only fly from NYC and DC on the East Coast. I'll have to wait.
