Oh, Nick Burns, or "Your Company's Computer Guy," is one of my favorite SNL characters ever — he would fix your computer, and then degrade you as only a bored IT guy can. Sadly, I have to say that Nick Burns is a too-often true stereotype. What is it about that job? I have had an IT guy treat me like I was a luddite, but luckily, the Sugar HQ computer guy is nice and respectful and has never told me to "MOOOOOOOOOVE!"
In this clip, Nick and his scathing impatience face off with Y2K and a 2000-era Jamie Foxx. Have any of you had a Nick Burns experience?

Oh, man. I have run into these guys so many times, but I can't really feel condescended to. I am a serious Luddite, and let them get away with it!
1Never happened to me but hubby is a comp tech and comes home with the funniest stories!!!
2Yep, have had it happen to me!
3Yep, have had it happen to me!
4i want this guy to exist in RL - i've never ever heard of anyone like this yet
5My guy is in IT. I wish I had someone as cute as him to help me out with my work stuff!
But yeah, he always calls it an ID10T (I-D-ten-T) problem, which looks like it spells out idiot. hehe. But not to their face of course!
6In college I had to deal with an asswipe of an IT guy who would spend hours explaining a complex concept when all you asked was why the printer wasn't working. Plus he had the Indiana Jones theme as his cell ringtone and a safari vest (this is pre-Crystal Skull) mind you.
Also one especially frustrating experience was with a Best Buy salesperson who I asked for a specific cable. She didn't know what it was so I had to explain to her. She then explains to coworker who assumes I didn't know what I was looking for and schools me in the fine art of cables.
7this used to be my favorite SNL sketch!
8I love when Jimmy does that skit! Plus I like that they are using Mac.
I know both sides of this (I was a user before I was in IT). It can be frustrating dealing with users all day long. While that doesn't give you the right to be an ass all of the time. I like this System Administrator song too http://youtube.com/watch?v=3wuHQU-6-sM
9I AM the epitome of Nick Burns. Why do I do it? The reason is simple... To keep from going crazy. Most people know I'm kidding when I pull my NIck act but sometimes I'm not kidding. If you've seem what I've seen people do to their PC's you'd probably be doing/saying the same exact things. A lot of PC users at work have the mindset that their WORK PC's are their personal little toys. That the internet is there for them to download and install anything and everything they feel like on WORK computers. Then they get virus', spyware, etc. and come crying to me for help.
10They don't realize that THESE ARE NOT TOYS. THEY ARE A TOOL TO PERFORM WORK!!!
When I visit these people I ask them, "What have you done to MY COMPUTER", just so they get the point that they do not own these units.
But, like anything else, some people never learn and do the same stupid stuff repeativity even thought they were instructed not to do multiple times. Beleive me, after a while it does get to you and you end up being Nick Burns.
Mooooove!!!!!
kevins432- Unprofessional. That is all.
