I don't use GPS, but I have led people around with the Google maps feature on my phone.

I don't understand how these people can so blindly follow a gadget that is already known to be flakey...

Don't they watch where they're going? This reminds me of the episode of The Office where Michael insisted on driving into the water because the GPS said so, even though Dwight kept telling him to stop.

Nothing happened, but my bf and his friend were driving around and had my GPS in the car. They were looking for a gas station and there was a lot of road construction in the area. The GPS led them straight to a dead end. Neither of them have google maps on their phones (that's a story for another day) but luckily they were able to figure it out and find some gas...or else they would have been stuck at that dead end and I would have had to go rescue them!

These accidents have NOTHING To do with GPS and EVERYTHING to do with stupidity. You wouldn't blame your navigator if he or she didn't tell you to stop at a dead end... GPS shouldn't be any different

Looseseal - when I read this the first thing I thought of was the episode of the Office that you mentioned. hahahah Too funny! People rely too much on technology... me being one of them.

In Charleston, SC, my TomTom kept insisting that I go the wrong way down a one-way street. I was lost for almost an hour because the stupid machine didn't realize that all the streets it wanted me on went the other way. I'm glad I saw the one-way sign before I turned the first time... otherwise I definitely could have been killed.

I think that's an incredibly irresponsible reasoning for a bus driver. I can see how they would want to trust the device, but gadgets should not replace common sense and knowing your area. A route to Garfield high school from Kirkland should not have to go through the Arboretum and any professional driver should have been able to figure out the GPS was full of crap even before coming across the 9' foot clearance signs.

that sucks! i love GPS systems though. but do the bus drivers usually know the measurements of the bus off the top of their head like that?

Yeah, the gps is a guide! Mine has directed me to dead ends before, but i didn't keep going!!

And my bf's iPhone led us in the complete wrong direction so bad last night that we finally just looked at the map to figure out how to get to our destination because their directions were to a completely different address!

Yes, I love my little GPS and I don't know how I'd find anything without it, but it's just meant to be a guide and should still be used with a nice dose of common sense. I know I was looking for a PETSMART once and it led me a to an imaginary location in the middle of the street. That GPS can be crazy sometimes, but for the most part, it's a very, very handy tool. You just gotta know how to work it.

My GPS sometimes freezes or tells me to take extra streets I don't know, but I think I have enough common sense to not let it get me into an accident!

I work as the night auditor at a hotel, and almost daily I get a call saying "my GPS says I'm here, but I don't see you"......trouble is, the town the hotel is in doesn't have its own zip code, so GPS systems always place it two miles further up the road than it is. Funny thing is, people coming from the east never see the hotels big, brightly lit sign, preferring to trust their GPS to lead them properly. Poor suckers.........I have a GPS myself, but I always trust my eyes first.
