This question is mainly aimed at people who don't yet have an iPhone, because one thing I encounter a lot as an iPhone evangelist is this response: "I'm waiting for the next one to come out."
They often cite the "bugs" in this first, current version, to which I just give them a confused look, but I will admit that I am excited for any of the rumored features to show up on the iPhone — like 3G, video, 32 GB of storage, a better camera — and I would definitely consider an upgrade when it makes its debut.

Additionally, an analyst predicts that iPhone 2.0 will take significant market share from Palm and BlackBerry, especially as native third-party applications become available and make the iPhone a viable business tool. With this predicted rise in iPhone sales, will you be contributing?

I'm still really reluctant to switch wireless carriers. I'm still hoping apple releases other versions of the iphone for verizon and etc.
1Very much tempted to. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.
2I'm with Rachel..I'm not switching plans. I have used one and its nice and all, but still I would rather just get the ipod touch and not deal with the phone.
3The only way I'd get an iphone is if 1) the price dropped and 2) they opened it up to other phone companies.
4Sticking with my current iPhone, unless they go ahead and put 3G service here....
5I'm with AT&T already, but the price is just too high for me, especially when I have a practically brand new iPod. And since there is no contract/upgrade discount on the iPhone, I'm not interested.
6i wouldn't switch carriers
7and i like the sony ericsson phones better. they already have phones wtih 5mp, which for a phone is a lot, and my phone had a 2mp camera before the iphone came out- it's better.
i just don't like the i phone. i'd scratch it easy ( i hate phone cases, sorry, i don't want to buy a case for my cell phone - it's just more money to waste), i don't like the shape because it is huge in comparison to my hand, and it has no place for a cell phone charm to link onto. (at least i didn't see one) and i must have my elephant hello kitty
The price would have to drop, and they'd have to be available from a Canadian carrier. I might pass anyway. My old phone is next to free to use at this point, just as long as it doesn't break!
I almost bought an iPod Touch but opted for a YP-P2 instead, and I don't regret it. It's lighter on functions, but it's also smaller. And it's tiding me over 'til I can afford an iLiad...
8when is this happening? I just got an iphone a month ago = (
9Love apple but don't love the fact my technology is ancient so quickly!
if it can open/edit word and excel, sign me up!
10My husband and I are both going to get new iPhones when he gets back from being deployed overseas at the end of the year. He's going for the mega 16g one (or if they get a bigger one by then, that's what he'll be getting), and I just want a small 3g iPhone.
11Only if I can use it on a network other than AT&T. I have already signed my life away to Sprint.
12Heck yes I'm getting one! My Verizon contract is up in a month. Their phone and data plans are $20 more a month than AT&T anyway!
13I will be getting the new model with 3G and I'm hoping they will get 32GB's in there as well. I suspect you will see this in June.
As far as other carriers I think you will have to wait several years before the exclusive AT&T contract is up. For Verizon- I was told by a Verizon person that it won't ever happen as the iPhone has to sync through iTunes which competes with their own V Cast Music store and poses a problem.
14I think so, I won't be standing in line for it, but I will pretty much get it within the first week of it coming out, I expect.
Of course if the exterior really got that more plastic looking revamp, I will have to see it first before I decide to upgrade my current one. But knowing myself to be the sucker that I am, I will probably like it...and if it's not too hideous 3G alone may well be worth it...
15i don't know if i'll get one even though i've been saying that i'll wait for the 3G iphone. i just got a blackjack 2...
16i don't know if i'll get one even though i've been saying that i'll wait for the 3G iphone. i just got a blackjack 2...
17It depends on the price and the state of my phone contract when it comes out, but I'm definitely interested!
18Yes. I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for 2nd gen. I was bummed SJ didn't mention it at MacWorld.
19I'm a mac user at home, but there is no way I'm getting an iPhone. It's too expensive, and I had some really awful experiences with AT&T. I'd go so far to say that I hate AT&T/Cingular.
Plus I really don't like the way the touch keypad and predictive text works. The fact that you can't surf the web and receive calls is a complete deal-breaker for me as well. I know my husband is crazy about it and is convinced that his iPhone is the best thing in the world, but I just don't like them.
20I work in an AT&T call center as a cust service rep. AT&T has exclusivity and the Iphone can't be unlocked and I honestly do not see the big deal about the Iphone. The plans suck! You have to have the Iphone data package and the lowest one is 20.00 a month which has unlimited data and 200 text. I mean it really is a waste and the Iphone isn't the only touch screen phone out there. You have the HTC Touch by Sprint, and they are also coming out with the Instinct, that phone is going to be so awesome! Its Sprint's version of the Iphone, its on the new NOW network and it comes out in June. That's just my opinion and if you like the Iphone then by all means get the new one, but just know there are other options!
21My husband has had the Moto Q for a few years now and it does everything the iphone does and more. btw, you can easily hack/unlock the iphone, it's already been done.
22Look I understand that the iphone can be unlocked but if you do that then most of the phones' features will not work. You wont be able to use visual voicemail, you wont be able to use safari, because you will need to change the browser settings to match whichever provider you go with and your provider wont be able to give you the settings, much less walk you through changing them, and good luck getting Apple to do that, those reps are the most unhelpful and will just call at&t customer service and tell us to deal with it. Unfortunately if you get one of us, since you don't use our service there will be nothing we can do for you! All you will be able to do is use it for voice calls. And don't forget that you can't even send picture messages with the iphone unless you send it as an attachment with email.
23Well seeing as how I just bought my iphone a month ago that'd be no. I love my phone and I rarely surf the web so it's no big deal. I just email and text. Oh and I love love love my iphone so I'll keep it.
24I wouldn't have to switch carriers and my hubby already has one. I want one with faster internet because teamsugar takes forever to load! Maybe an iPhone page is needed? :hinthint:
25YES, I'll be getting one! I've been waiting for the 3G. Also I won't dare wait the 5yrs for the AT&T exclusive to be up, plus who's to say they won't just extend the contract again.
26P.S. I totally think the iPhone is worth the price I mean consider all that you get, a phone, a wide screen video ipod, you can watch movies, real web search, youtube, and now GPS soon I mean the list just goes on and on. If you were to buy a bunch of different gadgets that can do all this it would be hella expensive!
27im getting it as a graduation present!!! so im excited
but.. i have t-mobile and i blackberry that i adore so i'm kind of scared that i wont be able to unlock it/and browse the web, blah blah blah, but i will most likely use it to use the phone and i-tunes features.... i WISH tmobile would carry it, it would be perfection.
28The reason I haven't jumped on the iPhone bandwagon is because I'm waiting to be eligible for an upgrade. I got two more months and its mine unless I decide on a blackberry instead.
29You bet! My boyfriend will probably have to stand in line for it again. Hopefully it won't rain this time. But hey, he got to be on EVERY news channel that evening!!
30It would have to have 3G and a way better camera, since I'm really looking for a good all in one device, but I still might wait anyway. It's a lot of money to sink into the device and contract and I'm so rarely away from my computer.
31ABOUT THE UNLOCK AND JAILBREAK
Yes you can use it with any SIM card WORLDWIDE. Everything works, you can browse the internet and receive calls at the same time. You can use every function, you CAN send MMS using an third party application, you can play games, play musical instruments, you can play with photos like in photoshop, you can draw on it, you can use converters of all kinds, check the weather, browse Google Earth...
It's amazing how little people know about this things... You have 2 major applications for Jailbreak and unlock: ZiPhone and iNdependence... I have iPhone for months now, and I live at the end of the world (iPhone won't be available officially in my country for a century
) Every single function is working perfectly. I never download apps from unsafe sources and I only use it with Macs... For now, I haven't been able to scratch it, its
really resistant.
So, before you go on and on about how something won't work after it's unlocked/jailbroken take look at:
http://code.google.com/p/independence/
http://www.ziphone.org/
And ask some people who did it
Like me
The only thing you are loosing with unlock or jailbreak is the warranty!
And, yessssss We are getting new iPhones as soon as they are out because EDGE is so sloooow
and I am hoping for a better camera
Sometimes I think that this contract thing and locking of iPhone is the best marketing trick, people want it desperately, and it has it's ways to get to all the countries in the world, not just USA, UK, Germany...
32I like the iPhone a lot, but I won't switch carriers for it. I love my verizon chocolate and verizon plan, for now. I guess I'll just wait til the iPhone is unlocked and see how improved it is then!
33I was already on AT&T and using a Motorola KRZR, which I really liked. Until I dropped it in a toilet and it died. The next day I bought an iPhone, and I've never looked back. I love it. My only wishes are that #1 it took better pics (though for a CELL PHONE they are decent), and #2 you could picture text. I love texting on it, I love the way the voicemail works, and I LOOOOOVE surfing the web! I must admit I do go to the sugar sites a lot! I agree with a previous poster, when are yall gonna have mobile versions of the pages???? The Edge network usually works pretty well for me when I can't pick up a WiFi signal. Except, oddly, in the edit bay I work in EVERYDAY!
I love picking up random WiFi signals when waiting in line at places & stuff.
34If its true 3g then I plan to buy the next phone.
35I love all things apple, so I will be owning the newest iPhone. I will even be switching carriers. I really think it's worth it!
36This is the very reason why I waited a bit more before moving from my blackberry to an iPhone.. I wanted 3G from the very start and 16 GB is just not enough for me.. so yeah, I'm definitely buying the new iPhone when it comes out..
37EW NO WAY! The iPhone is terrible. I'm so sick of all the macfans out there proclaiming that it's God. THEY STOLE THE TECHNOLOGY FROM CREATIVE. Helloooo?! I am very happy with my Blackberry. It does everything the iPhone does and more! I have a friend who is a macfan and he even said that he wouldn't recommend the iPhone to anyone. Blackberry already has had 3g for a long time. And as far a iPod's go.. I've had an iPod and a Zen. My iPod (I've had 3 different ones) would always just "forget" how to play music or wouldn't turn on. My Zen has always played perfectly without a problem. If you think you love Apple, you really should try something else.
38tiltahurl, do you own an iphone? Or your friend who said he wouldn't recommend it? Because i don't know how you can proclaim that something is terrible when you can't speak from experience. Also, on many carriers, the BB is also on Edge and not 3G. The BB does NOT do everything the iphone does--have you browsed on your BB and tried an iphone as well? It doesn't even compare.
Lastly, if your ipod broke, i'd recommend that you hit up the apple store's genius bar. Everyone I know who's gone to the store with a broken device, whether it be an ipod, laptop, and yes, an iphone, has received a new one if they couldn't fix it.
39Yep, I'm waiting for 3G.
