Widower Calls Deceased Wife's Voice Mail Just to Hear Her Voice

File this under Sigh: An 80-year-old man whose wife died in 2005 has been calling her number every day since, just to hear her say her name on his voice mail recording. I'm in a virtual puddle over here.

Anyway, after a while, the carrier, Verizon, upgraded the service and it was lost — but don't worry, they got wind of it and restored the message for the man. He says, very simply, “I’m glad they rescued it. . . I’m very happy.”

So if you're feeling a little worn-out and overwhelmed by all our wedding coverage on IDoSugar and details, details, details — take a break and read this story and remember what it's supposed to be all about.

This is probably one of the sweetest things I've ever heard. And wtg to Verizon for restoring the message.

That's awesome. My family actually did a similar thing. My grandfather had called one of my aunts before he passed and left this beautiful message about how much he loves his children. She saved it and recorded it to a picture frame and now all the children have it. I listen to it sometimes when I'm at my mom's house just to hear his voice. It is really calming.

My grandma doesn't have the heart to change her home's answering-machine message. My grandpa recorded it, and he died recently.

omilawd- my grandma did the same thing when my grandpa died. She kept his answering machine message on for over a year and when she changed it she kept the tape that it was recorded on so she can still listen to it when she misses him.

I did this for a friend that lost her husband WAAAAY too soon. I recorded her husband's outgoing message on his cell onto a CD and gave it to her.

My dad and I actually do this. My mom passed away a year ago from breast cancer. She had recorded the voicemail for our home phone and we have not changed it. People always tell us that we should and that it's "creepy" to call and hear her voice. But, my dad and I like knowing that we can call it anytime and hear her. It's just comforting.

    That's not psycho or creepy

I wonder how long they'd been married

But how is it creepy if you've spent 40 - 50 years with someone seeing them everyday and then they're gone.. Wouldn't you want that reminder? I know i would..

This made me cry.. I love old couples who still love each other.. and it's so tragic when they lose their other half..

My friends nana died and his papa used to still bring her tea every morning for a couple of months because he didn't know what else to do as that is what he'd been doing for most of their 60 year marriage... His family would find him just sitting there crying..

    It breaks my heart
