When I purchased my first computer, laptop, and MP3 player, the last thing I cared about was its color — I was just overjoyed to be able to call one of these gadgets my very own (plus they didn't come in cool colors like red or pink).
Nowadays, whether it be laptops, iPods, or USB flash drives, you can usually find your favorite gadget in your favorite color as well. But I must admit, seeing candy-colored external hard drives is a rarity. When external drives become just as popular as flash drives, I'll understand why they need to be splashed in 11 different colors like these My Passport Essential Portable Drives. For some reason, I think of black when I think of a hard drive, but then again, that's me having to adapt to hard drives being just as beautiful as every other gadget I own . . . But I do love my pink eGo, so maybe there is a part of me that cares.
What do you think? Do you care what color your external hard drive is?

Yves Saint Laurent
See by Chloe
Golden Goose
I don't care what color it is, as long as it works. Yeah it would be cool to have a colored one...but if its more expensive to get a colored one I would rather just not bother.
1If the price and quality are right, I'd like to pick a color. It'd inspire more happiness when looked at, and I'd be able to spot it when I set it down somewhere and know that it's mine. Always helpful.
(Oh, and I think silver when I think "hard drive".)
2I think silver too because my Maxtor is silver with a pretty blue light. But yeah, if I had the option and it wasn't more expensive I'd love to have a colored hard drive.
3I'd value capacity and reliability over color, but if given the choice between two comparable hard drives, and one was black and one was bright blue, I'd definitely pick the bright blue one. I'd even pay a little bit extra for it. I love bright colors in everything!
4I agree with Lindira - ability/quality/usefulness all come first, but everything being equal, I'd go for the brights. I think a bright red hard drive would be really fun!
5oOOoo pretty colors
6I want a silver one to match my mac book pro. I got a black one to put my movies on it and play via USB on DVD player. It matches all TV and such.
7I go by price, then user reviews, then color.
8I also think silver... but my external is black. I did have a choice between black, blue, and red (and I think maybe silver, but not sure), but my favourite colour is black so I chose that.
9Although I might have picked pink, given the option... I love pink, too.
I recently bought an external hard drive and although the pink one was super cute, for the exact same price I got one with much more space. So, all other things being equal, I would go for color (preferably plum), but otherwise it's larger size for the price.
10If colors are available for the amount of space I want, then I'd pick a color. These Passport drives look pretty neat!
11I think it can be fun - I have an yellow backup drive that is called "the yellow machine" but I don't like paying more for color.
12Yes, it does. I wouldn't let my boyfriend back-up my hard drives until he got me a pretty hard drive to copy it to (Iomega eGo in Flamingo Pink) I use the Microsoft online photo back-up to automatically back-up my photos, so I was just risking the rest. But I've never, in my entire life of having a computer since Kindergarten (pre-windows, let's just say) lost any of my stuff for any reason. Still, he INSISTS it's backed-up! I think he just thinks I'll blame him if I lose my important things.
13my hard drive is black - my brother got it for me on my birthday. if there is a choice of colors at no additional cost or for a minimal increase in cost i'd pick a color - otherwise i'm fine with standard black or silver. i decorate my stuff with stickers anyway. back in college when people still used diskettes i'd personalize mine with holographic power puff girl stickers
(dual purpose too - i could leave them lying around on
campus and everyone would know they were mine and none of my guy friends would steal my diskettes)
14colour is really important to me as i love bright colours but they have to balance out - for instance, in the above picture there needs to be a solid green hard drive because there's too much red. when i buy things i have to make sure they go with everything else i own. yeah, i'm weird like that ^_^
compatibility, reliability, price, quality are all important factors too, but given the option, i always prefer to buy bright coloured things.
15I could care less!
16Quality first, this is important data after all. At one point I used to have all my tech stuff in pink, in a pink bag with pink pens and so on and so on. It was nice as the men techs didn't want to "borrow" my stuff. At some point I needed to be taken more seriously as a technician so I dropped the pink. I think I'm close to being able to bring some pink back as I can hold my own with the men.
17I love color, I love making my world more colorful. I would have a hard time picking just one color.
18I totally only bought my hard drive because it was red! I think black electronics are icky looking!
19The eGo also comes in midnight blue on Amazon, and that's the one I've been lusting after. You really can't beat the price, and it's a pretty color to boot.
20colours make me happy!
21I'd look at quality and price too - but hey if they have it in my favorite colors I'm definitely getting it!
22i think that if i have a choice on color it makes it better but if i don't then i'll live. i like to have things match...but it's not a requirement.
23the colored ones are usually more expensive and harder to find...i have two stackable porsche lacie ones in a nice shade of silver that work well with my other gadgets.
i've always kinda wanted those lego stackable ones.
24I love elegant stuff and despite I like these colored ones.. I prefer black... It's just so elegant and still hot.
25BTW I'd choose red if I had to.
It sad but they do. If I make changes to my work area in color or design i swap out hard drive cases to much and repaint the old ones for when i make color and design changes again.
26Stylish hard drive it's A MUST
