I'm definitely excited to play with the Microsoft Surface, and I think it's a great idea that AT&T is using it to feature phones. I remember when they announced the Surface and everyone kind of balked about the price (10,000 bones), especially considering the ads and videos on the website that depict regular people using it for pictures and art.

Otherwise, the price and functionality make sense as a commercial product for AT&T and the Starwood Hotel chain, but are any regular people going to buy this thing for personal use when a consumer version is released in 2010? Even rich people? Tell me, if money weren't an object, would you buy a Microsoft Surface?

Maybe if money were no object. But for now, Wacom's Cintiq 21UX has got my tech lust.
It'll be interesting to see if MS Surface takes off. Just putting a device on the thing is an interesting way to interface. But then, everything you use with it would have to be wireless. Touch is cool, but HP's TouchSmart has touch (though not multitouch) for a fraction of the price. Apple will probably come out with something soon, too.
I don't really dig the idea of mounting cameras on my ceiling for any reason, though.
1I would buy one when the price comes waaaaaaaaaaaaaay down. Just gotta wait on the competition to bring their versions out. I remember when scanners cost hundreds of dollars and were humongous. Now they're an afterthought on an all-in-one printer, which run less than $100.
2When they drop to $5k I'm getting one.
3Yes.
It sounds so cool. Very sci-fi-ish. But I heard that, for
example, to use it with a camera like they do in the ads, your camera needs to have wireless. Right? That would be kinda annoying. Because no, my camera doesn't have wireless. It would
definitely be really awesome in hotels though, like they were supposed to be. But to be honest, Microsoft ain't gonna make much money with it as long as they keep it at $10,000.
4For me, it's not even close to worth it for that price!
I think it's nifty, but I will probably never get one.
5If money weren't an object? Sure! It seems cool.
6even if money weren't an object i think i'd rather buy shoes lol
7if they weren't 982375802375 dollars hell yes!
8No, I wouldn't buy this. I hate Microsoft's software and hope to buy a Macbook later this year.
9Oh, the things I would buy if money weren't an object!
Micrsoft really needs to take a page from Apple's book and use a catchy indie song in their ads instead of that hoaky si-fi synth crap. Not that Rilo Kiley is going to get me to fork over 10 grand!
10Give me a break. A Microsoft state-of-the-art peripheral for consumers? pa-sha! No F*&*ing way! This thing will be counter-intuitive, crash, only work with certain cameras that no one knows of yet, the list goes on and on. There is a reason that Apple exists and it is to protect geeks from this kind of garbage.
11it seems very cool, but i like just having a tablet laptop to carry around
