Even if you don't want to get away to some electricity-free island and break free from your tech, I bet everyone appreciates the short break from remote communication you get while flying. When I see one of those antique in-flight phones, I thank God they were too much of a hassle to use, because if someone near me in our ever-decreasing-sized seats were gabbing away, it would go something like this — Me: bald Britney with the umbrella, them: the SUV.
So, cell phone enthusiast though I may be, I'm not exactly excited about Air France's testing out in-flight calling. It's only on a trial basis for now, and Air France has said they'd discontinue the service if calls became a problem, but I can't see this NOT becoming a problem. Sure, you say, if it's for emergencies only, it might be OK, but I already know plenty of people for whom EVERYTHING is an emergency. So, holla: Would you call someone in an airplane?

what is so important that it can't wait 3 hours? the new expectation that everyone is available anytime thanks to cell phones stops at planes. if you are flying people expect to have to wait until you land to reach you like back in the olden days. we have become such an instant gratification society that a little waiting for a plane to land would probably do some good.
1I get annoyed because as soon as the plane hits the ground I see people whipping out their cellphones and turning them on.
They can't wait like THREE MINUTES until we turn off the active runway and it is permissable to use
them?
2No, I think it would interfere with communications. Also, I dont want to disturb the passengers.
3No. I think it could be really rude after a short while for the other passengers. People should be more respectful to others when using their phones anywhere.
4Freak disturbing the person next to me i don't want to mess with any signals with he plane and the towers.
5Only if it's an emergency - say, the flight's delayed, etc. Other than that - no! I think it's rude and annoying.
6I wouldn't talk on a phone on an airplane, but not becuase I might disturb others - I don't want to be disturbed.
7NO NO NO! Enough! Gaaahhhhhh!!!!
Sorry, but it just had to be said...
8I think that being able to receive calls in flight and being able to make calls in flight can be important if you are dealing with an emergency. other than that, i'm against it.
9Hmm, I don't know about this one.
10I'm not one to abuse privileges, so I wouldn't be on the phone with my friend gossiping, I'd only use it if the flight was delayed or - god forbid - some emergency.
But I can see people taking it too far, and that's something that really bothers me these days -- there are some LOUD talkers out there. Like be friggin mindful of other people around you and talk lower.
I take the subway pretty often and although sometimes it's annoying to have to wait to be out of the tunnel before I can call/text someone, I'm kinda glad that we can't use our cell phones b/c my IPod would have to be glued to my ears to drown out the noise of people yapping. Reading would be out of the question.
Come to think of it all I do on planes is read, so the distraction alone would be enough to drive me up the wall.
So I vote NO!
I think it could be helpful for emergency type of situation or for those days where something must get handled. You could be on a Trans-Atlantic flight from LAX to CDG and someone might need to get a hold of you, although I doubt there would be much you could do about it mid-air. I just know in the regular class area where most passengers sit those are some close and cramped quarters. I would hate to have someone sitting next to me on the phone for a long period of time talking about nothing just to pass the time.
11um whatevs, flights are boring. need someone to talk to, yeah.
12No. I think it is rude and annoying. I do not need the people next to me, in front of me, and behind me to hear my private conversations.
13I definitely wouldn't. I get really stressed out when my phone rings when I'm on the bus. I just think it's rude and inconsiderate of the people around you to talk in public places. I mean, having access to the phone at all times is amazing, but that doesn't mean the person sitting near you for two hours needs to know intimate details of your life.
14No! I cant stand it when people are talking loud right in my ear in supermarkets, malls etc. What is our society coming to when people dont have respect for others around them. Just bc you can do something doesnt mean you should.
15Considering I live in L.A. and people here don't know how to talk on their cell phones QUIETLY, I can imagine the horrid experience of everyone going on at once in an enclosed place. Besides, it has to be an extreme emergency if a call can't wait a couple of hours.
16I can just see it now some obnoxious annoying loud jerk would take full advantage of this and talk for hours! UGH!!!
17I would only if it was an emergency, but generally I don't even recline my seat when I'm on a plane LOL!
18Ugh
I think I would go on flight rage if I had to listen to some nitwit on their cell phone for the flight
People don't know how to be considerate with cellphones, they talk too loudly and they have WAY to personal conversations.. and don't give me the BS that it's like talking to the person beside you because people DO talk louder and UGHGGHGGHH
CELL PHONES ARE A LUXURY NOT A RIGHT
19I wouldn't talk, but I would totally text. So I'm for it.
20especially since I spend my time on planes sleeping, I really don't want to hear people chatting on their phones.
21no way. texting, on the other hand...
22i would but only if i needed to make sure that someone was actually on their way to the airport at the other end to get me, cause my friends are forgetful retards sometimes. texting i would be ALL for. I am a text-a-holic.
23Of course if I needed too...
24I put yes as my answer, however, I would only talk on the plane if I were in the window seat and could try to direct my conversation away from the other passengers around me. Regardless I don't think I'd talk during every flight for the whole flight. I would only talk on my phone if it was really important or I was extremely bored.
25no! first off i wouldn't want other poeple listening to my convo and second my ears are plugged from the air pressure so i'd probably be annoying talking all loud.
26OMG! I can see it now, me sitting in the middle seat between to fat sweaty guys talking on their phones an entire four hour flight. F**K me gently with a chainsaw!
