A couple of my friends recently got mugged in San Francisco, so after a few years of acclimating to this city that I love, I feel like a recent transplant again, because I'm feeling a little paranoid.
Last week, I would have said this Personal Safety Alarm from Brando was unnecessary and unsightly, but this week, it's lookin' pretty good. You don't have to clip it to your handbag like that, but I actually don't hate it there. It has a better chance of being accessed if I don't have to dig through my massive bag, after all.
On the other hand, I feel like I'd totally set that thing off in my office or home and make some innocent ears bleed. What do you think?

I just bought some pepper spray so I'm in a paranoid mood too. At least this couldn't accidentally hurt the user, so I say love it.
1I have pepper spray and this personal alarm doesn't look like such a bad idea!
2I am often in some big cities and this wouldn't be a bad thing to have on me.
Although a bit more expensive, there's no personal security gadget quite as effective as a 357 magnum.
3I own some pepper spray and yes, I do often wonder if I'd be able to reach it fast enough if I happened to ever need it. Although that alarm is kind of ugly on the purse, safety comes first and I'd see myself using that...especially in particularly dangerous places.
4I'd love to see the look on a mugger's face when they come in contact with this!
5I've been thinking of getting pepper spray, so I'm going to look into this as well.
6nifty
7How scary for your friends! Stay safe!
8idk what anyone wouldnt like about it! It's very unobtrusive and unnoticeable. And anyways, it's even a nice color. I would like one.
9very usefuk and inexpensive. i bought pepper spray but i never carry it with me, this i'd be more likely to carry.
10But what if the person who's mugging you has a gun, gets frightened and shoots?
I do think it's a good idea to have a personal safety alarm but that would be my only concern. I think that it would be a good idea to use as a last resort after pepper spray (in case you can't find it in your handbag). So two methods of personal safety are better than one. I'm interested in getting one though!
11this is a fantastic idea. i went to a concert the other night and they wouldn't let my friend bring in her pepper spray that was on her keys. so we had to make the long scary walk in the dark back to the car after the concert, sans pepper spray.
12It's ok...
13I dunno, I carry a knife with me. And at home I have pepper spray too.
I think it is a great idea. Good question though Babby!
14I would hang it on my purse.
15I hope it comes out in purple
16I love it, just not in easter egg green. They'd be smart to make it in every color, preferably neutrals, to match handbags.
17These actually started coming out over 10 years ago. I remember a company that you could get into to sell them - back then they weren't that big, I've always thought that they were a good idea though.
18forgot to say that over the years, the design and ease of use has improved greatly. Which may actually contribute to their popularity now. Kind of like cell phones lol (remmember back in the 80's when they first came out and how big and bulky they were? lol)
19Kim's right. I actually sold a couple of them myself.
I think this is a great idea! The biggest problem with any self-defense measure is that you don't want the mugger to use it against you. This could be a problem with guns, knives, and pepper spray. Plus, I'd probably be nervous and end up spraying myself! No such worry with this!.
20I know this thread is kind of old, but this alarm is actually a great idea (even though I agree, it's a bit ugly).
I had a friend who had a scary experience with a guy in one of the local colleges. He had kind of cornered her when she was sitting down reading. She was able to grasp her purse strap with her toes (she was wearing flip flops at the time) and covertly hit the button with her big toe to sound off the alarm. I think it may have saved her from some real trouble!
