I am totally anal when I rip a CD onto my computer — I input the song title, artist, and album name as accurately as I can because when typos and lowercase text come up on my iPod, it makes me insane. When I get files from someone else who is not quite as OCD as me, I painstakingly try to fix any misspellings. I hate a disorganized-looking iTunes!
FixTunes had me in mind — it corrects your mp3 file names so that you don't have to look at something ugly, AND with the correct spelling, FixTunes gets you the right album art!
After downloading (Macs and Windows both welcome), you'll notice several FixTunes playlists in iTunes — when you go into the "Not Looked Up" playlist, you can select any song, and the FixTunes window will display the probable match. Click "Fix" and voila!
Now what else can the internets help my neuroses with . . . ?

We have like 80G of music on our pc from all our old CDs and such that didn't have artwork and it drove us crazy. We used a program called Media Monkey to fix it. Sounds like it's similar to this!
1omg geek! youve totally made my day with this! im totally ocd about this too!
2Awesome! I am gonna DL it tonight!
3Awesome! We could totally use this!
4OMG this the same problem i have!!! i even like 2 have the album pic and the begining of evri word has 2 be uppercase! =S
5this is gonna save me so much time!
The ONLY thing I'm anal about is my iTunes. I have to have every track properly spelled and capitalized and all the right artwork.
6This software works really well. Here is an article with a bunch of other tips on Getting the Most out of iTunes. It covers FixTunes and a bunch of other good tips.
7Brilliant! I'm just gonna love using this. Thanks for sharing.
8oh, hmm...i thought it was a free application...whoops...only 50 free, and I didn't even selectively pick what songs I wanted fixed, since I didn't read the fine print for it
9And I thought I was the only one who is THAT type A. Glad to know I'm in good company. Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely check it out.
10Is this an advertisement or an actual blog post?
Considering its not FREE software I'd like to know. Are there any open source software titles that will do the same thing?
11Oops! I was misled too because it bills itself as a "free download" in several places. Like graduatedsqueaks says, choose wisely, and I'll keep on the hunt for a totally free version.
12I'm glad you found FixTunes! Email me at geeksugar@cloudbrain.com and I will create a purchase code for the 1st 25 people that send me an email.
Thanks!
Kelly
13I am happy you listed this I surely can use this!!!
14Before everyone gets excited, read through the comments on http://hifiblog.com/past/2006/09/14/review-fixtunes/
15Although the reviewer approves of the software, the users seem to have a different opinion... I've been using MediaMonkey and though it takes time to organize my 100GB music library, it's been much easier with it - and it's (actually) free =)
