On Tuesday we posted Hold Your Wee for a Wii Contest Killed Woman which explained how 28-year-old Jennifer Lea Strange died of water intoxication after participating in KDND FM's water drinking contest to win a Nintendo Wii.
"The hosts of KDND-FM's "Morning Rave" — who go by the on-air names Trish, Maney and Lukas — were fired a day after the Sacramento-area station announced it was suspending the show and investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Jennifer Lea Strange."
The radio show and show personalities should definitely be held fully responsible for this tragedy, especially since the contestants were not warned about the dangers and risks associated with holding urine for prolonged periods.

I was listening to the Adam Corolla show this morning and they had a clip of the show. It was so sad but besides that they knew. They all knew. They were just told that before they would die they would throw up as a bodies "natural" reaction. So the girl is talking about how she felt light headed and they say it's what it feels like to drown. But she later just says that she doesn't feel well and that she will probably need to throw up. So I don't know. I think she knew but thought it was a myth. *shrugs*
1Excuse me, but there is such thing as PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY! Things that happen are not always someone else's fault. Perhaps the radio hosts should have done more research and maybe had a nurse or paramedics on site, but if the contest participants didn't feel good afterward, no one stopped them from seeking medical treatment.
Her family is now filing a civil lawsuit. That is insane!! It was a stupid radio prank, contests like these are played everyday in all markets, there was no malice involved.
2This is soooo sad. I think the family has a good case for a civil suit. Obviously the radio station agrees or else TEN people wouldn't have been fired. What a tragedy! It really puts things in perspective!

I had no idea such a thing was possible. Having said that, nobody put a gun to this woman's head to participate. And over a game system? Wretched.
4Apparenlty everyone was told about the dangers AND they all signed waivers. She knew what she was doing. Personal responsiblity indeed.
5In addition, a nurse called in during the contest and told them it was dangerous. The contestants heard it. It all goes back to Personal Responsibility.
6As long as the waiver said "risk of injury, possibly death" then yea they don't have much of a suit.
7The station fired the people because otherwise in the public eye they would look like "aww sucks to be her, not our problem, on with they day!", they acknodwledged their involvement in her death.
I think it was just a crap idea from the start, somebody liked the whole play on words with Wii/wee and ran with it.
