We all know that texting while driving can be very dangerous, but what about walking while texting? According to Yahoo! UK, padded lampposts are being tested on London streets — no joke. I guess texting while walking accidents occur more often than I thought, with a recent study revealing that 1 in 10 people are hurting themselves while focusing on their cell phone screens instead of the street!
If you live in London stay tuned as this pilot project will be launching on famous Brick Lane — the street that has the highest walking and texting injuries! After living in London for a period of time, I always noticed people on the tube staring intensely at their iPods, but actually causing bodily harm by focusing on one's cell phone? Wow! OK, I'll stop making fun of these individuals, because I could totally see clumsy me doing the same thing. What about you? Any "run-ins" with street poles?

That picture is hysterical.
1Mind your head!
2I'm not one to be obseesed with my phone but i did have an incident at work. I was checking a message as i was walking back to the office and tripped over a log straight into the garden bed. It was at a caravan park so of course there was tons of people around!
3Ha, I have bumped into things on occasion while looking at my phone. lol
4
that would hurt!
5I was walking on a small road on the way back form school, and I got an IM. I was replying, and I guess it was something major since I didn't notice a car had stopped behind until the rightfully impatient man honked at me!
6Mind your head hahahaaha!
7Omg the first time I saw the "please mind the gap" I almost sh*t myself cuz I was laughing so hard!
i haven't yet -thankfully (but yes...knock on wood). i've been knowing to try to multi-task while walking but living in NYC - there's ALWAYS the chance that i'll get hit by a cab or something so i try to avoid it.
8How dumb are we becoming? The city has to put pads on lamp posts because we can't stop what we're doing and watch where we are walking?
If you have to say something to that person at that exact moment, and can't stop to text, why not actually...oh, I don't know...CALL the person?
9i've tripped but not sure that had much to do with the texting, i'm kind of a klutz anyway lol
10See the thing is its not just texting that causes harm its also checking sites like geeksugar while walking. I had a long walk last week, got bored while on my way, so I'm online and tripped on uneven concrete! Of course I did that sly look around to make sure no one was looking and kept walking like nothing happened.
11No and I hope I never do!
12Eek, not yet!

14This is what happens when you are texting while walking...
I have, but not anything serious. My roommates and I saw this newscast yesterday and were laughing hysterically.

16no but I nearly had a driving while texting accident yesterday afternoon
17Not yet.
18Hope it never happens.
ooh cherrycola, that looks ouchy!!
and stwbrry sgr.. ive had my own txt/drive sessions, so im in no place to judge..!
ive never walked into a pole, but ive stumbled, stepped on the cat's tail and probably a couple other things.. im a clumsy one
19Nope, that hasn't happened to me. I guess I'm just used to texting while walking. I use my pheripheral vision and just walk slower when I need to use my phone.
20Texting ins't a priority to me so, no. I'm not allowed to be this dumb.
