Look out MacBook Air, there's a new lady in town and rumor has it, she weighs less than you — ouch! According to USA Today, computer manufacturer Lenovo will be announcing a new teeny laptop tailored for business travelers. Weighing in at only 2.9 pounds is the ThinkPad X300, which isn't as slender as the Air, but boasts a built-in optical drive, multiple USB ports, a removable battery and integrated WWAN. Now for the bad news, it's gonna cost you — $2,799 (starting price), compared to the $1,744.00 of the MB Air. That being said, would you pay the extra $1000 for the sleek design and additional features? Total toss up!

Geeksugar, would you consider doing a head-to-head comparison of these two in terms of performance? I'm thinking something like the Wall Street Journal computer guy does, but more geared toward the sugar audience.
1I'll stick to my super-thin Vaio, thank you very much.
2It's skinny, but it's not nearly as pretty as the air.
3I'm not sure the extra grand is worth it yet, BUT, I'm sure once the price goes down a bit, then it would be worth all the extras.
4It's skinny, but I don't think it's "super sleek design" - the Air is much, much more aesthetically pleasing. This looks like the early 90s clunky laptops on a diet. Ew, gunmetal grey.
5I'm sticking with wanting the Air, but not being able to afford it at the moment.
6I just think Apple offers much better products.
isnt thinkpad by IBM...i can even see the IBM icon on the picture...so is this pc by IBM or Lenovo??
7But...
it's so ugly.
I wouldn't buy either, actually.
8This isn't MBA competition, this is MB competition. The whole point of the MBA is to be a minimal laptop for the business traveler. This is just a smallish laptop from an off-brand company. Yes, ThinkPad was IBM, but Lenovo bought it, before then Lenovo was just the company who manufactured them for IBM.
9At east it has a CD drive. But it is super unattractive.
10I love all Lenovo laptops and am glad that this teeeny thing is getting the attention it deserves!!
I can't help but to chuckle a little at all the "its ugly" comments: "Sure it actually has a cd-rom drive, and i can replace the battery, and it has an ethernet port and they are actually reliable... but... it's not white."
11I think Wired sums it up nicely: "If you like the Air but want a computer rather than bling, [the ThinkPad X300] is probably what you're really after."
12"$2,799 (starting price)"
They must be smoking crack!
13Let's be honest, the air is just so pretty, if i wanted function i'd get something else.
14Wow, somewhere Steve Jobs is angry. But, I a very loyal mac girl, so I say booo, hissss.
15Hmm, that's pretty cool. It's kind of boring looking, though.
16this is pretty gnarly but come on the air or this. please. i'd take the air. call me when you make something better smaller and cheaper lenovo.
17I'm a PC person. This definitely trumps the all-fluff Mac Air.
18Unless it runs OS X I'm going to have to say no at any price
It is nice to see that
Apple's innovations inspire other companies to raise the bar. I do agree with sauterhead though, they could have made it a bit more sexy, no?
19ohsnap!
20they showed up apple!
A little pricey but I like the sleek look!!
