I don't just love TiVo because it allows me to watch my favorite shows whenever I can fit it into my crazy schedule. I also love it for the fact that I don't have to watch commercials. I decided a long time ago: Commercials, me no likey. ABC seems to be totally missing the point with their new video-on-demand service that streams their shows on TV, for free and anytime you want (like HBO's On Demand). The catch? You have to watch the commercials.

ABC's (with Cox Communications) new service would be great if you don't already have a DVR. The ability to fast forward through the commercials has been disabled, so to get that free content, they've got you, Clockwork Orange-style. ABC executives say this is a direct challenge to DVRs like TiVo, but the addition of force-fed advertising just makes me want to go home and hold my TiVo (his name is Gilligan) closer. It's a dealbreaker for me. What about you?

Isn't that called network tv? I already pay to have ondemand on my cable, and btw there are STILL commercials on there.
1I've been using ABC's site, and while I thought the commercials would be an annoyance, they haven't bugged me that much. They only last for 30 seconds (much shorter than if you were watching on your television, sans TiVo) and many of them can be muted or even paused. I'll put up with that to get every episode of Lost for free in HD.
2I already put up with commercials for free TV (I don't have cable, just an antenna). I don't mind commercials. Maybe this is because I'm in a marketing-related field. I enjoy seeing a commercial that is put together well.
3i really don't mind commercials for all it's worth.
4I think people pay extra for TiVo and other DVR's so they don't have to watch commercials. People who would be interested in free cable are probably already watching commercials.
5NO WAY. Although I agree that this is the way it should be. Free with commercials or NO COMMERCIALS period if you pay for cable etc. As soon as they get enough people on board, ABC will suddenly start showing losses and "resort to" making people pay anyway. TV is a lose lose situation. I don't want your ads anyway and I shouldn't have to pay for the privilege of watching you try to SELL me something.
6i dont' mind having commercials in online tv shows. The thing I hate about ABC's shows are that you have to click continue for the show to progress. other sites like NBC and Fox have the 30 second commercial and then go immediately into the next segment of the show. I like watching "tv" without having to click all the time.
7As a college student without a DVR and no time to watch TV on the network's schedule...watching my shows over the internet has become a staple!
8Sure, I don't mind commercials.
By the way, I'm loving the Clockwork Orange reference.
9It's not that bad, I mean, it's usually only 30 seconds.
It's kind of the same on hulu.com; they have a few 30-second commercials crammed in the episodes.
Great site, if only they would put more episodes on there of my favorite shows.
If you're really looking for commercial free, just buy the (really expensive!) complete season on dvd.
10YES YES YES! I don't care about propaganda or possible subliminal advertising, give me my free on-demand!
11I'd rather go the other way and pay for ad-free shows.
12This is the reason why I'd rather buy my episodes on iTunes.
13Nice Clockwork Orange photo.
