With all the hours I've spent playing City of Heroes, I never thought I'd see the day when my character could laugh along with me after zapping a thug to his demise with my Energy Torrent. Soon, it just might be possible. A company called Emotiv released a headset at the Game Developers Conference this week that uses medical technology to scan the user's brain for electricity (EEG) and promises to make our online characters become a little more lifelike. By interpreting neuron transmitters that fire within our brains, it's possible to mimic a player's facial expressions and use mind control to move objects within the game. Just think of your brain like a second controller! Here's more:

The Emotiv EPOC uses a set of sensors to tune into electric signals naturally produced by the brain to detect player thoughts, feelings and expression. It connects wirelessly with all game platforms from consoles to PCs. The Emotiv neuroheadset now makes it possible for games to be controlled and influenced by the player's mind.
The EPOC is said to be priced at an "affordable" $299 for the ultimate gamer, and a limited edition of the neuroheadsets will be shipping in time for 2008's holiday season. For a video previewing how it actually works, read more

Intresting. I like the idea a lot. But what games out now could be used with the technology?
1LOL! Wow, it took forever to get anything going. I don't see how that would work because the characters would have to be able to work with it, or do you think "1" and the 1 is pushed?
I can see it now:
"HEAL!!! HEAL!!!!"
"I'm AM! I am clapping!!"
"..."
/kick.
2It looks neat, but judging by the video, it took ages for the thing to interpret and respond accordingly.
3All I can say is: Woot! Woot!
4Thats really cool but I agree, it looked like it took a long time for the game to respond. I wonder how much concentration is really takes to get the game is actually work properly. I know when I'm playing games, theres usually several other things going on around me or other people talking to me...ect...
5Would be worth a try.
6I agree, it looks too choppy to be of use in hardcore gaming situations. Before you know it you'd have MANY WHELPS and be reaching for your mouse and keyboard anyway. But this is such a great step in the right direction.
On another note, dude in the video totally made me think he was using The Force to move that stuff.
