Did you know that Tuesday was "National Clean Out Your Computer Day"? The day devoted to deleting old emails, cleaning up your desktop and backing-up old files to make room for new ones?! Considering backing-up my data made my New Year's Resolutions list this year, maybe it's time I put my new eGo Portable Hard Drive to the test and "back-up!"
The other day Yum reminded me of this hilarious clip from Sex and the City and it brought me back to the good (or not so good) days of laptops crashing and zip drives. The best quote would have to be at the end of the scene with Carrie saying, "After all, computers crash, people die, relationships fall apart. The best we can do is breathe and reboot. And when that fails a little gizmo called a zip drive can provide a surprising amount of comfort." Ain't that the truth?!
And so, I must ask, when was the last time you backed-up?

Marni
Ludd
Swear
that was funny, when she wrapped it up in her pashmina

I LOVED that episode!
2I backed up at 1616. Time Machine should be starting up any minute now
3i just can't believe how much faith we placed into zip drives back then! i bet there are tons of folks with a bunch of things stuck on zip drives that you can never access. i know i have my share!
4@yumsugar: I have my wedding photos on zips - ouch.
I back up every day using carbonite.com. I can't recommend it more.
5Hehehe I saw that on reruns a couple months ago when my computers started going south on me. I was on the phone with my computer science degree brother, hysterical, trying to get my laptop working again during finals week! It made me laugh instead of cry...but my laptop got reformatted three times in about a week, and my brother built me a desktop from spare parts and drove them the couple hundred miles south to set it up, and after he left, I nudged it and it turned off and wouldn't turn back on!
I do backups every month now since I lost EVERYTHING the first time. Ugh. That was so the couple weeks from hell - about five computer emergencies, a car wreck, and a speeding ticket.
6OMG! I love this episode! So funny! I still can't believe she never backed up any of her work!
I used to back up using zip disks, but after awhile those d*mn things stop working. I found out the hard way. I use DVDs now.
7i cleaned my computer out just a few days ago actually
8I remember watching this episode!!
9Another geeky satc is when Miranda wants to talk about her new palm pilot and the other girls won't stop talking about men! Love it!

I love this show....I can't wait till the movie comes out.
12My favorite part was when Dimitri accused them of not being comaptible because her guy was a pc user and carrie, of course was a mac-ophile! Just like me and my guy.
13This was the episode that made me realize that even though I may see complete data loss every day I needed to be more compassionate when breaking the news to people that they have lost everything. Oh and if he really loved her he would have bought her a titanium PowerBook and not the iBook
14I've never backed up my computer.
15What I liked about this episode was how how Carrie hated the iBook Aiden bought her to replace the broken mac - he said she could carry it around like a purse.
16I love when she says that she threw everything away during a feng shui attack. I first saw this episode right after doing a feng shui purge and laughed out loud when she said that. And isn't the Mac tech guy one of the correspondents from the Daily Show? I knew I'd seen him somewhere!
17Lmao Sex and the City is the best show.
18i've had my external hard drive die on me...guess its like buying a stage of your life.
19lucychenorama- that's a good point, external backups are not fail proof.. you just hope that your computer hard drive and your external backup both don't die at the same time. Chances of that would have to be extremely rare
20Great episode!
