I recently decided to take the plunge and get rid of our household's printer. . . and NOT replace it. That's right, I am going to be printer free in 2008! This decision has been a long time coming. We haven't used the printer that sits on the desk for what feels like ages, choosing instead to hit up Kinko's or Office Max with a thumb drive (and I know some of you rapscallions do it at work).
This convenience (and cheapness) is exactly what I need right now. What I don't need is a big hunk of plastic taking up room on my desk and costing me half my paycheck when I need to replace the ink cartridge — which, of course, I can never identify in the store unless I bring in the exact cartridge I pulled out of the printer. Phew. I'm getting this off my chest and my printer off my desk!
Good riddance, printer! We had a good run. What about you?

i'm still in school and i'd be spending a lot of money to print stuff elsewhere...
1I'm in school... I depend heavily on my printer to print lecture slides and things. I wouldn't be able to survive here without it!
2I have a 3 in one printer. I can't live without it.
3Not getting rid of my beloved HP Three-In-One until I get out of school!
4I have two...my older HP inkjet for regular paper printing (school and work from home)and an HP photo printer. Why wait for digital pictures? That's the joy of a computer/digital camera/photo quality printer....instant gratification!!!!! (Well 5 minute gratification....better than wasting gas and hanging out for an hour!)
5I use this almost daily to print out homework! Also, I use it to print out google maps a lot. I would never get rid of it!
6I can't imagine living without my printer. I use it all the time for any number of things. It's also it's right here; I don't have to go somewhere else to print something out. In addition, my fiance is an actor, so I'm always printing out his headshots. I can't EVER part with a printer.
7I have two all in one photosmarts and wouldn't part with them for anything.
8My older model HP kicks tail when it comes to printing photos, the only way I'm getting rid of it is if it dies!
9I too have a HP photosmart printer, but I don't use it except when I need to scan something. Maybe it's because I'm too cheap to buy another black ink cartridge.
I normally print everything at work.
10kinko's is defintely not cheaper. and when it comes to printing for design school, you are printing 11 by 17 pages all the time. we actually have TWO hp printers, and are thinking of POSSIBLY in a while replacing them with a large printer that prints 11 by 17 so we aren't paying over 2 bucks a page each time we have to print for a critique
11we could never live without our printer. we have to print basically everyday, all the time.
I definitely can't live without my printer. I don't use it a lot, so I'm not spending a fortune on cartridges. However, it definitely comes in handy. Can't imagine not having one. Going to somewhere like Kinkos would be an inconvenience every time I needed to print something.
12I bought a HP deskjet 9800 printer that prints up to 13x19 because of design school and I love that thing. It has saved me so much time, money, and hassle. It takes up a lot of space, but it is worth it.
13I'm still in school so I definitely need it. I have a bunch of work that needs to be printed and all..
14Of course. I'm a college student and a writer. I'd be lost without it.
15I have 3 - 1 that I got free w/my old computer, a 4-in-one (copier/scanner/printer/fax) that I bought after my bf got his and loved it, and an old HP IIIP laser printer that was a hand me down that I've been using since '95 and it's still going! The one I got free is not working anymore so I have to recycle it but the other two are great!
16I haven't had a printer in years. Sometimes I miss it, but generally, I hardly ever print anything. Digital style!
17I'm in college, so no. I love my printer.
18I print an absolute world of postage at home, just about every week; getting rid of the printer would be sentencing myself to an awful lot of jail time at the post office or the local Mailboxes Whatever. Ergh, no thanks.
That, plus invoces, inventory lists, living and working late night - i'll probably have a printer years after everyone else has chucked them.
19I don't use my printer that much, but I do appreciate that it's here. For example, I just ordered a bunch of shoes from endless.com, and they will do free return shipping... if you print off the label from the internet. It's not automatically included, and if you don't print it off, then you don't get the free shipping. I can't fathom taking a cab to get to a Kinkos to print out a free shipping label when I can just do it from my own desk.
20I couldn't live without a printer. We have 3 printers that get regular use, and one in a box that we don't need. I don't think that Kinkos is convenient either. They aren't cheap and i print alot of stuff so it would be annoying having to go there to do it.
21My husband works from home, so we use ours a lot...it would be super inconvenient for us to give ours up!
22i use my printer daily. since i hate my handwriting and type everything instead it's a necessary item for me.
23Oh my, I'm not in school and I use my all-in-one printer all the time - to print coupons and recipes, make copies, send faxes, etc. I can't imagine living without a printer for a long time to come - which isn't to say I wouldn't be interested in something more compact!
24We moved a year ago and we still haven't set the printer up. I used to use it to print photos and make cards (it is a color laser so it makes both of these awesomely) but I haven't missed it at all. If you don't want your printer on your desk, you could set it up on your network. Ours was always in my boyfriend's room and I just went in there to get the prints. I'm with you, though. Most of the things I would have quickly printed to take with me, I now just email to myself to have it on my phone.
25we have 3. including an hp6250 printer/scanner/copier. can't imagine not having one, hardly a day goes by that i don't use it. the girls have school assignments and i do my volunteer hours as a photographer at their school and their swim team.
26I couldn't imagine being without a home printer. I absolutely hate having to get any printing, copying, or faxing done at Office Max or Kinko's. Aside from the inconvenience of adding an errand to my day, at least half the time things get messed up, the equipment doesn't work right, or the customer service is less than stellar (mostly in the knowledge department).
As an alternate, I could go to my local library branch but they have less than 10 printers, along with printing fees and a usual wait of at least 15 minutes. At least they don't make you bring your own paper like they do at some of Harvard's libraries!
I'm currently shopping for a 4-in-one printer so I can print, scan, copy, and fax from home. I don't have a scanner or fax machine and can't figure out how to fax things from my Mac - and even if I could, I would still need to fax and receive actual paper documents.
The icing on the cake ould be if I could find the perfect 4-in-1 with wireless capability - no more USB cables!
27I'm a rapscallion who prints at work.
28I can't live without my all in one. I need to scan most of the time n make copies of stuff. It still works like a charm for me rather than having to run out of the house each time i need to get 1 of those stuff done.
29Most days, the printer just sits there. But when I do need it, I'm sure glad it's there. We bought a uber-cheap Lexmark 3 in One. It works for the basics and is so much more convenient than going to the local Kinko's, Staples, etc.
30I refuse to pay Kinko's or whomever for subpar prints. I refuse to have to leave my home in the middle of the night to print out a term paper only to find that all the printers at Kinko's are broken or low on toner.
I refuse to pay for computer time just to print something up then have some loser steal my document off the printer before I reach it - and pretend that he/she did not take it.
Having a printer without a printer would be like having a kitchen without pots and pans. IMHO.
My neighbor's is trying life without a printer at home and basically she's found she has an expensive internet connections and solitaire machine. She keeps asking ME to print up docs for her and I keep saying "sorry no can do - Costco sells cheap reliable printers perhaps you should get one".
31Having a computer without a printer is like having a kitchen without pots and pans - is what I meant. Better yet a kitchen without a sink.
32I print at school.
33I still have a printer; for me it's a must have. I have a HP 1350; it's fairly small for a printer/scanner/copier. I'm a student and need to have a printer. So I don't see myself getting rid of it and if it dies I'll just get another.

35I don't like the inconvenience of not having a printer. I live in the boondocks so there's no place to go run and print something off when I need it.
36I was calling home printers extinct the other day. I got rid of my home printer over a year ago. I'm lucky, cause I have the convenience of having a fab work printer. I use that for everything.
37i'm a college student. GASP! where would i be without one!?!?
38I'm a student as well.. and I really, really need printers since I'm taking journalism.. I've got two laser printers because I can't bother waiting million of years(or minutes..) for a 10-page paper to be printer out and a photo printer..
39I am a Pixma girl. Pixma printers give me the best results on paper, foils or on printable CD-s.
40I have IP4200 in the office and just a simple IP1800 at home. I use them both very oftenly and I find them both quite nice designed compared to HP or EPSON, or not to mention ugly Lexmark models...
Ink cartridges are sold separately so when the printer is out of one of 4 colours, or extra photo black one, I just replace that particular ink for €5. And I never used all of the inks at the time
So I guess my slogan would be: "With canon you can"! LOL
Ok I made a mistake there €10 would be the price for one ink cartridge
I am buying originals, although people do buy refilled cartridges
41I'm in University so I need to have a printer for my essays. I could get away without one but I would rather not?
42I still have one but it's out of order for months!
43And don't miss it!
Yeah I have a 3-in-1 printer and a Canon photo printer. I LOVE them both Geek!
I'm
still in school so I print out ALOT of essays/reading material etc.
44Can't live without ours either. It's used for printing maps, menus, and other business related things. I would love to get a smaller overall system, but after spending 1200 dollars on our van...well.
45I have to have a printer because I need one for school!
46I need to, I am a teacher
47I have a printer... I barely use it, but I cant give it up... the thought of NEEDING to print right away and not being able too kills me.
483 in 1 here. We don't use it alot, but we do use it.... I just printed birthday party invitations
49Oh, I couldn't survive with out my printers! I have two, one for general copies and one that is specifically for printing photographs. The cartridges are expensive it's true, but why go to Kinko's when I can have exactly what I need right here in my studio! And it's available any time of day or night, I can even print in my jammies - can't do that at Kinko's!
