This geek tip is coming to you from the school of hard knocks — after downloading the new version of Firefox 3 (currently in Beta) on one of my computers, I was dismayed to find all my add-ons were gone. I know, you're shaking your head and saying "duh!," but I thought I'd let my mistake be a warning to you. A warning will pop up that some add-ons are incompatible and it can check if there are newer compatible versions.
However, this geek got a tip from another geek: If you want to use the new, speedier Firefox 3, you can always download this in addition to your current version, that is, download it to your desktop instead of replacing your current Firefox. And a forewarning: The aesthetics of the new Firefox aren't exactly gorgeous, if you care about that sort of thing.

1Well, here's the info on the beta.. It states that your add-ons won't work because it's a developer beta.

he he, that's exactly what i did. You should never download the beta to replace your current version unless you have to.

6I downloaded the portable version and have it on the c drive directly (downloaded only on the PC thus far).
My current version of FF2 isn't stable - it keeps crashing and stalling. Driving me insane!

8I would imagine they will fix the extensions issue before it comes out of beta. But I agree, the look of the application is a bit of a letdown.
I've been thinking about switching to Camino. Doesn't have all of the extensions of FF, but it's a very fast lightweight browser.
9Well it's kind of a given that most extensions won't work in the beta version. Most developers aren't going to make necessary changes to extensions until the final release is out. Either way, I'm not complaining about FF2, so I'll keep using it until FF3 is able to support the add-ons that I use.
10I downloaded this but put a "3" at the end of the app name so it wouldn't override my firefox 2. I really don't love firefox. I use Safari pretty much exclusively. Camino is my backup and when it won't work in Safari or Camino then I go to FireFox.
11a while back I downloaded this beta version and then quickly got rid of it because all of the add-ons and themes I use are not compatible. I'll still be waiting...
