This may be TMI, but I often have moments when I think my cell phone is in my coat pocket or bag and I pat down both like a madwoman until I find it. The moment I realize it's not in its "usual spot," anxiety sets in, my heart starts racing and panic takes over my entire body. I'm not the only one who can't stand the idea of being disconnected. Meet Dennis Neil, the managing editor of Forbes magazine. Dennis was featured on a Today Show special last year, which tested the limits of individuals being unplugged from technology. He was to live without his cell phone, BlackBerry, and two laptops for an entire week . . . Could he do it?
After watching this video on Lifehacker, I couldn't help but sympathize with Dennis who had to rely on pay phones and land lines to make and return phone calls. After only forty hours into the experiment, Dennis broke down after the thought of being unreachable to his 6-year-old daughter was too much to bear. "Staying in touch becomes addictive," he says, "when you cut off communication, you cut off connection." What do you think? Could you survive being disconnected?

I'm a graphic designer so I'm very addicted to my gadgets.
1I think I could make it 3 days MAX on a vacation. But If I had to be at work I wouldn't make it a minute. Not even the car ride, or to get up in the morning.
2I could go a week or longer but I get really paranoid driving without my cell phone.. not because I use it while I drive, but just in case something happens.
3I actually feel like crying if I think I've left my iPod or cell phone at home. I couldn't do it.
4Maybe, if I absolutely had to...
5I sure could without a doubt. I have self control over those things.
6I remember (eek) when having cell phones was not the norm. Now I don't think I could survive without mine!
7i also hate when i have left my ipod at home, so i guess i'd say no.
8I go through my phases...so I could definitely go gadget free for a week....I just went gadget free when I went on a 7-day cruise...and it was a beautiful nightmare...LMAO.
PS: This was BEFORE I got my blackberry...so....
9I dunno.... when I went to Japan, I only went online like five minutes a day. I had an iPod but it was dead. But I did have a cell phone, where I could email and make phone calls.
I think I actually could. I'm planning on going to Africa sometime next summer, when I plan to unplug myself!
10Even though I would want to escape from technology sometimes, I don't know if I fully could. I think I could try for a week though, as long as I'm on vacation somewhere!
11I'm an active writer and a college student, so I need my laptop. Also, my mom has breast cancer and is going through chemo, so I have my phone on me at all times.
12Nonono! What a nightmare it would be.
13i say that i can handle at least a week and then i figure i'd get a bit anxious - but i remember that i was in Texas at my boyfriend's house and i didn't use my cellphone or computer or anything becuase tey don't have wireless etc....and i was ok.
14for one of my classes, i have to go 24 hours without any technology. cell phones, ipods, tv, radio, EVERYTHING. i am panicking!
15I can't live without my gadgets, you'd have to kill me before I'd let go of them!
