I don't know how I lived life before downloading the Wikipedia widget. I am sure it sounds extreme, but I use Wikipedia for all things kitschy, for serious research and to pass the time. There isn't a topic I've researched in vain on the site, and I adore the fact that their content is user-generated.
The widget is a good companion to the complete Wiki encyclopedia because you can search for and view complete Wikipedia articles without leaving your Dashboard. It's also great for those moments where you have a mental lapse and can't remember where Madonna was born, or what year the iBook was debuted. Clearly, the searches are near endless, and if you don't find what you're looking for, you can always research it elsewhere and submit an entry yourself.

As a person who does research for a living, I would feel like I was being irresponsible if I didn't give a little warning here:
Wikipedia's content is user-generated.
* This is often great because people who are really into the topic will pour all of their passion and knowledge about the subject into it, giving you a depth of information you might not otherwise find online.
* This is often terrible because people with agendas, albeit political, social or simply comical will manipulate, malign or falsify data, deceiving the general public and/or perpetuating urban legends and even libel.
That said, I certainly use it- but as a backup source, not a primary. And more for things like track listings on albums than historical events. I always try to make it clear to others that it has its limitations.

(And yes, I'm the spoiler who emails people back when they send me the latest urban legend- but I always send them the link and info about where to go in the future, so that makes it OK, right?)
1I always use Wikipedia. I find it easier than Googling things. Theres nothing I havent Wikipedia-ed.
