When a new gadget shows up on Lost, odds are that its presence is dubious at best. Those touchscreen satellite phones by the new other Others, Other-controlled ultrasound machines — if technology shows up on this island, you have good reason to be freaked out by it. I'm already scared of who the new foursome with those iPhone-lookalikes are contacting, and I think I have good reason to be: One of them is a ghostbuster! New character Miles has one of the scariest backstories in Lost history — he's some kind of a ghost-whisperer! Apparently spirit hunters like Miles need more than just their mind control though. He busted out this wacky ghost-busting gadget in a scene illustrating his talents:
Is anyone else thinking what I am? That this looks freakishly like the Dirt Devil I kept in my car in high school?!

Lost is an amazing show! I got hooked last summer when my boyfriend and I watched all three seasons on dvd and iTunes (Season 3 wasn't out on dvd then).
Miles is weird, but I thought the dust buster thing was just his way of keeping his clients from hearing him talk in normal conversational tones to the ghosts. Also, it was a noise and they'd probably expect there to be some gadget.
6yeah i think it was just covering up for his clients. so they think he's doing something from the noise. but i guess he's not a fake. i wish it was more like the Ghost Traps from 'Ghostbusters'
7I agree with the comments about it just being a decoy gadget. I think the gadget was fake and just helped him with his sells. I doubt many people would fork over $200 to some guy with no gear or proof that he could "ghostbust".
8It reminds me of those Compact Disc scratch removal devices combined with a Shark Hand Vacuum.
I thought Miles had made himself is own Ghostbusters spirit capture box minus the nuclear fission business.
