When you rent, you don't always get the cozy comforts of a home that you long for, but the Electralog Compact Electric Stove ($150 from Lowe's) brings you a faux fireplace without voiding your lease. Its 3D screen provides roaring flames, and a heater can be set to high or low to fabricate that cozy feeling further.

You can also turn off the heat and enjoy the look of the flame alone — it even has a remote! I don't know if this falls into the category of material things that cannot be imitated by a gadget (I'm still getting used to the idea of e-book readers and digital picture frames) or if it's a fabulous alternative for my days as a renter. How do you guys feel about it?

Hmm, I'm surprised. $150 sounds pretty inexpensive to me.
1Dare I call this tacky?
2Not for me.
3My parents have one of these, they are *incredibly* realistic looking and sounding. MUCH classier than a space heater.
4Dare I say that I want one?
5Possibly one of the tackiest things I have seen in the past three years!
6I've seen these looking pretty real and quite beautiful. If I had a choice between this and nothing, I would certainly get this. And AKristin is right, it looks better than a space heater.
7My grandmother uses this in her porch to keep extra warm!!!
It's little and cute in person. Better than the traditional icky space heater.
8I've had this for a couple years (mine doesn't have a remote though) and I love it. I have it in my bedroom in case it gets cold and it's fairly realistic.
9so cool. would so use it!
10i have mine on right now. it came with the apartment - it has a huge/heavy very beautiful wood ornate enclosure. i love it! i'm in a basement/garden level suite so we need the extra heat
11I would LOVE to have one of these. Given, it would not fit in with my craptastic little mobile home, but once I move to an apartment, I think this would be an absolutely wonderful touch.
