this seems weird. i have never even pulled my laptop out on a plane, and i have carried EVERY laptop i have ever owned form ohio to california on a plane (my tangerine ibook, my white ibook, and my macbookpro) and i never whipped it out on a plane. i wouldn't do it on a bus, subway

On the one hand I'd be pumped to try it. On the other hand I'd be afraid I'd get mugged or pick-pocketed. Haha.

I don't use public transportation. If I did, I'd probably only use the WiFi on my phone. I wouldn't break out the laptop on the ride home.

Heck yeah! Now that I have my brand spankin new iPhone, I am so amazed at using the WiFi in random places just because I can.

no way. i get enough weird looks already. i don't want to be thinking about someone being able to snatch it.

I would love this. I was just in a position where I needed to have access to my email while I was out and it would have been wonderful to have a WiFi connection on the subway.

There have been plans implementing WiFi coverage in the city of Toronto. A WiFi blanket, WiMax or not, I'm not sure. But probably is, and Bell and Rogers are going to work together on this one (ha-ha, yea, funny!).

I have though, picked up an SSID that says.. "Toronto Wi-Fi" in various different spots when I was visiting downtown Toronto. All are within a 4KM radius. So, it can't be all coming from the same AP. But it's password protected... so, I wasn't sure.

And if there's gonna be WiFi in the subway, I'd assume it's the work of Toronto Hydro! (Or so I've been told?)

Anyway, that'd be neat! Commuting won't be as painful any more. And I'd actually take the public transport more often ;P.

As for BART... I'm very impressed I was getting full reception on my cellphone when I was visiting SF! Over all, BART > TTC. ;P. Canada suck in every possible way when it comes to telecommunication.

Depends on the city and the time (not rushhour!), I might be willing to use wifi on the subway. I'd rather be able to use my cellphone without roaming.

My subway ride is about 15-20 minutes now and I already pull my laptop out to work on stuff at times. This would be a no brainer for me.

i think that it depends on what type of public transportation we're talking about. the subway - NO WAY - i think that it's too cramped and you're really not on it for long enough. a bus or train - that's a different story. you have a bit more privacy to do what you want - even though it's an open network.

When I use free Wi-Fi (at the airport, on trains, in bookshops and hotels), I don't use my normal login, I use a crippled sub login on my laptop that has way fewer access rights.

I don't want somebody to be able to get into any sensitive documents or snag my credit card number, so I mostly just read stuff that doesn't require a login when I'm on an unsecured connection. I definitely don't login to my email, work server, or purchase anything over a free wi-fi connection. Paranoia and good sense sometimes overlap, ya know?

What!! Really?? WIFI on BART!! Of course I would!! I ride BART all the time. This news just made my day! I hope they run the signal all the way through the tube under the bay.

I have a 1 1/2 commute and at the moment I use my iPhone to check out the news on the WSJ. The Edge network is soooo slow. I would love to be able to connect to the internet.

Yeah, but I'd be doing things a little differently than most people. Instead of the usual surfing on the iPhone or Laptop...

I'd be playing Tetris on my DS with people in Japan, heck yeah!

We already have wifi available on our public transportation system, actually we've had it for at least 6 months now!
